What’s Happening

The Centennial Bridge in Miramichi is temporarily closing April 6 to Dec. 1 of 2026 so that the Transportation and Infrastructure Department can replace one of the approach spans of the bridge.
It is part of a multi-year project to rehabilitate the bridge, which is used by more than 8,000 vehicles a day and is a vital link between the east and west of the province.
Another shutdown is scheduled for 2027 for the same 34 week time period. An additional closure is expected, but details have not been announced.
Detour
For the duration of the closure, vehicle traffic will have to detour through the city.
Vehicles heading east will travel along King George Highway to the Miramichi Bridge and then along Route 8.
Vehicles heading west will travel along Route 8 to the Miramichi Bridge and then on to King George Highway.
Temporary Traffic Lights
To help keep traffic moving during the shut down, the city has put in place temporary traffic lights at the following location:
– University Avenue at Route 8 WB
– Hennessey Street at Pleasant Street
– King George Highway at Cove Road
– King George Highway at French Fort Road
– King George Highway at Percy Kelly Drive

All traffic lights will have an advanced green for left hand turns and the traffic lights will be timed.
Left-hand turns have been limited from the following streets:
– Ledden Street
– Williston Road
– City staff will monitor traffic flow daily and make adjustments accordingly when and where needed.
Check out a photo of the map of the temporary traffic light locations.
