Miramichi icon will soon be no more.

The old smokestack at French Fort Cove is set to meet the wrecking ball.

The province is accepting bids to demolish the tower which was part of a lumber operation in the early 20th century.

The tower is in bad shape and there are safety issues such as bricks falling from the tower.

Bids are being accepted until Dec. 12th and the tower will likely be brought down early next year.
